Overview of the Exhibition

The plane table is worn as quickly as it is said to be "plane body (Kannami) one plane", and the carpenters make a plane table by themselves, scoop the plane blade, and sharper I was doing my daily work by finishing it into a good tool. From around the end of Meiji period, when various special planes were devised to process wood more precisely and quickly, specialized craftsmen in making planes appeared and played an active role as "daiya" until Showa.
At the exhibition, he mainly focuses on a plane craftsman who is known as a master of hitting a plane table that does not loose and does not mad, and Soichiro Ito (1922-2017), the owner of the Yamato Shoten, Soichiro Ito (1922-2017). Introducing the work of the dais who were active in the suburbs of Tokyo.
Please take a look at the world of plane craftsmen who have been rarely talked about.

"Technology and Mind" Seminar [105] Roundtable "The Age of Planedai's Self-made"
※Online application only.
From the Meiji era to the Showa era, plane casting craftsmen have refined their skills and supported the craftsmanship of craftsmen. In recent years, with the decrease in the number of professional craftsmen, we have entered an era in which users make their own planes. In this round-table discussion, we will talk about the past and future of making planes from the standpoint of one of the few pedestals, "creators", "toolers" handling planes, and "users" processing trees.
