What kind of place is Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum?
This is the only museum specializing in carpentry tools in Japan that conveys the skills and hearts of craftsmen to future generations by systematically collecting and preserving carpentry tools as hand tools, and conducting research and exhibition. It was established in 1984 in Naka-Yamate, Chuo-ku, Kobe, as a commemorative project for the 85th anniversary of Takenaka Corporation.
After that, in October 2014, it was relocated to a green area in front of Shin-Kobe Station and opened to eliminate the aging of facilities and the lack of exhibition and storage space. At the newly established Workshop Room, we offer experience programs that take advantage of the unique characteristics of museum that has a resident temple carpenter . The museum shop also offers special original goods based on the concept of "woods" and "tools".
What kind of building is Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum?
It is a Japanese-style roof building that harmonizes with the surrounding nature, one floor above ground, two floors below ground.
The interior of the building incorporates the skills of craftsmen such as woodwork, Sakan plasterers, and tilers, and pays attention to the traditional techniques and hearts of Japan.
At the same time, we also challenged cutting-edge building technologies, such as steel frame structures that pursue the narrow limits and large-scale halls built with wooden structures. The museum itself is a place where you can feel the skills of craftsmen on your skin.
