What kind of place is Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum?
This museum is the only museum dedicated to carpentry tools in Japan that conveys the skills and hearts of craftsmen to future generations by systematically collecting and preserving carpentry tools as hand tools, and conducting research and exhibition. It was established in 1984 in Nakayamate, Chuo-ku, Kobe City, as a commemorative project for the 85th anniversary of Takenaka Corporation.
After that, in October 2014, we moved to a green area in front of Shin-Kobe Station and opened in order to eliminate the aging of facilities and the lack of exhibition and storage space. The newly established Workshop Room offers an experience program that takes advantage of the unique characteristics of museum that has a resident temple carpenter . In addition, the museum shop also has original goods with the concept of "woods" and "tools".
What kind of building is Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum?
It is a building with a Japanese-style roof that blends with the surrounding nature, 1 floor above ground, 2 floors below ground.
The interior of the building incorporates the skills of craftsmen such as woodwork, Sakan plasterers, and tilers, so that you can see the traditional techniques and hearts of Japan.
At the same time, we will also challenge cutting-edge building technologies, such as steel structures that pursue narrow margins and large-scale halls constructed of wooden structures. The museum itself is a place where you can feel the many skills of craftsmen on your skin.
