At Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum, we utilize the abundant carpentry tools, related materials, videos, etc. to the extent possible, and support schools and local educational activities to ensure higher quality learning. We will examine the needs of schools, such as drawing and crafts, technical home economics, comprehensive learning, special activities, lectures, mobile museums, teacher training, etc., and discuss and implement learning contents with teachers.

  • This program is intended for school institutions (as defined in Article 1 of the School Education Law).
  • Admission is free for elementary and junior high school students regardless of whether inside or outside Kobe city.
  • Special support schools (including high schools) are also exempt from Admission.
  • Teachers who are led are also exempt from Admission.

Program contents

  1. The program will be held in the museum as part of off-campus learning.
  2. Available days are either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
  3. Practical experience and work experience will be accepted only on days when the schedule of Workshop Room and technicians is vacant, and permanent exhibition commentary will need to adjust the schedule of volunteer staff after application.
  4. Workshop Room service costs 1,000 yen per application.
  5. Commentary support costs 1,000 yen per group as commentary fee.
    *Explanation fees are exempted only for events conducted directly by elementary and junior high schools as part of school education. (Advance application required)

Lending materials for schools

1. Video "The carpenter is great!"

This is a video (DVD, 15 minutes, produced in 2011) that introduces the carpenter's work and tools happily in a story where elementary school children are interested in the building and meet carpenters and experience tools.

2. Video "Making a Nail"

Yukinori Shirataka, who was featured in "I'm going to a Millennium Nail" (written by Seigo Naito) published in a Japanese language textbook for the fifth grade of elementary school until last year (published by Mitsumura Tosho Shuppan Co., Ltd.) This video (DVD, 11 minutes, produced in 2012) introduces the process of making Japanese nails by Mr. Komitsu. The video introduces the characteristics and how to make Japanese nails, as well as the appearance of Shirataka parents and children who drive with enthusiasm and pride in their work.

3. Japanese nails

At the museum, we have a "millennium nail" made by Yukinori Shirataka. Lending for the purpose of having students actually pick up this Japanese nail and comparing it with Western nails that you usually see, to deepen your understanding of Japanese nails and make them feel closer. We are.
