Overview of the Exhibition

Isamu Noguchi, a leading sculptor of the 20th century (1904-1988). He is also known for his work using various materials such as wood and stone, metal, clay, and sometimes paper, as well as wood and stone. It can be said that the wide range of creative activities had already begun when a carpenter I met when I was a boy when I built Chigasaki's home `` Triangle House '', and when I crossed the Pacific Ocean with a set of tools. .
Some of the tools he used have been preserved at the Noguchi Museum in New York. They are a mixture of Western tools and Japanese tools, born to a Japanese father and an American mother, and have an international collection like Noguchi with an East-West hybrid personality.
Noguchi eventually arrived at sculptures made of hard stones such as granite and basalt, and built an atelier in Mure Town, Kagawa Prefecture. It was also the result of seeking the craftsmanship of masonry that could process hard stones. In this exhibition, through the "tools" actually used by Noguchi, we will unravel how closely "materials" and "technology" were involved in the production process of the work.
