Build a house using familiar materials. What does it mean for people to live with nature? This time, following the previous rice harvesting, I experienced the technique of actually building a house through a workshop.
First of all, what does it mean to build a house with Mr. Koji Sato of the National Museum of Ethnic Studies, the supervisor? What is a home in the first place? We talked about it from the dimension. I explained using the idea of bricolage to use familiar materials in nature without leaving garbage. It sounds a little difficult, but it’s actually easy. It was a story of scales from his eyes.

“How can I build a house with only air and water anywhere on earth?” One day the hard head will be loosened a little by little.

Katsutomo Sugano of miyadaiku, who was in charge of recreating the house of Malap, explained how the house was different from how the house was built in Japan. There are a wide variety of natural materials in Southeast Asia. How do you use it well? Now that you can only see lumber, you talked about the techniques of making various materials made of logs and the techniques of making them.

Today's main event is the beginning of roofing. This time, of course, we use rice straw cut in the previous WS.
We grow rice to harvest rice. No one grows rice to get straw. After taking the rice, cut it with a combine and feed it. But if you could use it as a roof in the meantime...
Until a while ago, straw has been used in various ways as a daily necessities such as ropes. In fact, it is a weak material as a roofing material, so it is rare to use it in Japan, but there are still areas where it is used in foreign countries. This time, I tried to learn such things together with the Indonesian style of roofing.

However, when you start, you will only be absorbed in the work. In about an hour, one side of the roof was covered.

The child loves the hut. Unlike the Japanese roofing method, the roof can be thin in Indonesia, so if you open a little, you can open a window immediately.

Take a commemorative photo with friends I met today!

This is the morning section.

Everyone in the afternoon.

Can you bring something back to each of you? I hope you can feel the nature close to me.
