Overview of the Exhibition
|
There are various wooden buildings around the world, and each region has its characteristics. Not only environmental characteristics such as climate and materials, but also various factors are reflected in architecture, such as religions and external exchanges that have been influenced by people to live.
In this exhibition, we will focus on the region of various large and small islands called Southeast Asian islands, and introduce their architecture and lifestyle culture. In particular, the Austronesia tribes (straddling the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam), which are the main ethnic groups of the region, are influenced by neighboring China, India, and Islam, based on animism, and has been influenced by Western Europe since the colonial era, and have formed a unique and diverse architectural world for each ethnic group. What is the technology to create such local architecture? Some craftsmen came in with tools, while others did not exist in the first place. Wisdom to familiarize and use materials obtained from everyday living areas. I would like to take a glimpse of the world of Southeast Asia, where diverse cultures are mixed, from the aspect of building technology.
