Overview of the Exhibition |
Finland's leading architect Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino explored a unique answer to Modernism with designs incorporating natural motifs based on Finnish environmental characteristics. Works realized in the competition, such as "Pi Mio Sasada" (1933), will push them up to the stage of architects around the world, and furniture designed for architecture will set the path for the establishment of Artec later. In this exhibition, we will focus on the technology of bent wood by Aalto and his wife, and bend solid wood in an L-shaped shape. – We will follow the path from molding to commercialization with regard to the development of leg and lamera bending wood using laminated plywood.
※This exhibition and the exhibition currently being held at Gallery Akuwad is a pre-planning exhibition of "Aino and Aruba Two Aalto" scheduled to be held in 2021 at Setagaya Art Museum and Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art. |
