A chisel (only) is a tool that is carefully examined as sharp as a plane (kanna). In particular, during the period from the Meiji era, when handicrafts were at its peak, before and after the war in the Showa era, blacksmiths called master craftsmen appeared, and many sharp masterpieces were created. This time, we will take up the chisel of "Sakuhiro", known as a master craftsman of chisel blacksmith in Tokyo.
The name "Sakuhiro" continued for three generations from the first generation, Umekichi Kashiwagi, who played an active part in the Meiji era. Among them, the chisel made by Masataro Kashiwagi, the second generation, was especially among hole carpenters (Anaya) specializing in digging holes for building materials. It was highly evaluated as a "sturdy and durable chisel". This time, we will introduce about 30 chisels of various shapes from the collection of the museum.
