Workshop & Demonstration: “Let’s Try Thatching!”

This is a participatory event where you can actually experience traditional thatched roof technology. A bundle of Japanese pampas grass is carefully placed on the base of the roof, and at the end, you will experience the basic process of thatched roofing until the surface is adjusted using scissors. Under the guidance of craftsmen, it is a valuable opportunity to learn how to handle Kaya and how to shape the roof while moving hands. Why don't you realize the wisdom of traditional living and the depth of technology while facing natural materials?
＊This event is a related event of the exhibition "Plants and Crafts in the Cycles of Life".

4th grade and above
※Elementary students should be accompanied by an adult. Adults may also join.
※Elementary school students will participate as a pair with an adult parent or guardian

20 people each time (advance application system, lottery if there are many applicants)
※Please wear clothes and sneakers for light work. (Sandals, clocks, high heels, etc.)

If you cancel three days before the date of receipt of the winning notification, you will be charged the full participation fee as a cancellation fee.
In addition, we do not hand over materials for the workshop at all. Thank you for your understanding.
