Overview

We make our own bowl using precious "Joboji Temple lacquer" (produced in Ninohe City, Iwate Prefecture), where only one bottle of milk is collected from trees grown over 15 years. Joboji Temple Nuri, a simple and robust "living vessel", is a lacquerware that can be used for generations while repairing and repainting each time. This time, we will invite a special craftsman from Joboji Temple to demonstrate and give lectures on lacquer collection and lacquer techniques in Joboji Temple. Recommended for those who want to know more about lacquer.
※The traditional technique of collecting Joboji Temple lacquer was registered in 2020 as one of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage's "Traditional Architects and Craftsmanships". This event will be held in commemoration of its registration.
*This workshop is a related event of the The Colors and Metalwork of Nikko-Revealing the mystery behind the architectural beauty of its shrines and temples exhibition commemorating the 40th anniversary of the opening of Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum.
