We invite a special craftsman (decorative master) who is working on the repair of ornamental metal fittings in Nikko shrines and temples to conduct a demonstration and hands-on class of ornamental metal fittings.
In the demonstration, you will be able to perform a kick carving of the arabesque pattern and a seven-piece hit!
In the experience, you will first experience carving straight lines, curves, and simple patterns with a chisel. Then, on a prepared copper plate with pre-designed motifs, they will hammer in tiny Nanako granules one by one to complete a decorative fitting piece.
*This workshop is a related event of the The Colors and Metalwork of Nikko-Revealing the mystery behind the architectural beauty of its shrines and temples exhibition commemorating the 40th anniversary of the opening of Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum.
