Satoyama is not just a natural environment, but a place where diverse ecosystems have been maintained by people using and modifying them.
Plant resources such as Japanese pampas grass and reeds have been circulated while being utilized as roofing materials, agricultural materials, and living tools to support sustainable living.
In this lecture, we will welcome craftsmen who support thatched roof as a traditional culture and talk about the relationship between satoyama plants and people.
Through the skills and wisdom of craftsmen, we will consider the way resources are circulated and the significance of preserving satoyama in modern times, and explore the possibilities of living in harmony with nature.
*This lecture is a related event of "Plants and Crafts in the Cycles of Life" exhibition.
*Event may be rescheduled or canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
