One of the events of the 2011 Special Exhibition [Roofs made of grass and wood], a commemorative seminar "Roofs covered with boards in North Europe-Wooden Church in Finland-" was held at Kobe City Education Center.
In this seminar, we talked about Finnish wooden architecture, which we usually have few opportunities to interact with.
He talked about the structure and roof, mainly the church that remains well among the wooden buildings.
Mr. Takeuchi of Instructor.
I have been researching wooden church architecture in Finland for many years. I went directly to the repair site of a church designated as a cultural property, and conducted actual measurements and interviews, so I was able to hear realistic stories.
The roof covered in a Finnish church is affixed on a scale with a plate, and tar from pine tan is applied to the surface and waterproofed.
The new church is black because it paints all the wood parts with tar.
It looks like the whole venue.
Thank you very much to Dr. Takeuchi of Instructor who gave me a careful explanation, and everyone who came all the way in the rainy weather on the day.
