Commemorative Lecture

To commemorate the holding of the roofing exhibition, we will welcome Professor Toho Yasu, a professor of the University of Tsukuba, and Misao Hiroyama, a thatch craftsman.
In his lecture, Dr. Ando will talk about Japan's thatched roof, which was born in the "cyclical use of grass" for agriculture and forestry, its regional characteristics, and the future of thatching.
In addition, Mr. Hiroyama, who has been involved in thatching for many years, will talk about the techniques of "Tsukuba-ryu", which is particularly sophisticated among Japanese thatched roofs, with explanations on materials and tools.

"Let's lay the cypress bark,"

We have prepared an experience of roofing cypress bark, which is rarely experienced, using actual materials and tools. Like the craftsman, take out the bamboo nails from the mouth and fasten the "tonton" and cypress skin with a bamboo nail with a hammer. It is a valuable opportunity that you can not usually experience, so please join us.

"Let's have thatch,"

At the Tokyo exhibition, under the guidance of craftsmen from the Kanto Tsukuba region, you can actually use materials and tools to prepare a thatch, tie a rope, and thatched roof models. I think that children can enjoy it in particular, so please take this opportunity to participate.
