One of the events of the 2011 exhibition [roofing-a roof made of grass and wood] was held at Onjo-ji Temple in Shiga Prefecture (Mii-dera Temple).

The first place to visit is Onjo-ji Temple Daimon (important cultural property). The whole was completely covered for repair of roofing.

Mr. Sugawara of the Shiga Prefectural Board of Education, who served as a lecturer for the tour.

Onjo-ji Temple Daimon is a building from the Muromachi period and has a fine cypress bark. The cypress bark material has a different shape depending on which part of the roof is used. They explained each type carefully.

Next, they saw a craftsman roofing the cypress bark. Everyone is curious to see the rhythmically fastening of the roofing material with bamboo nails.

The next visit place, Onjo-ji Temple Silla Zen Shrine (National Treasure). It is a building that is not usually open to the public.

The worship of the fine style (flowing) was cypress-roofed, and the replacement was almost completed. I was able to see the very beautiful curves up close.

The area of cypress bark was larger than Daimon, and the eaves of the cypress bark were also doubled. Everyone seemed to feel the cypress bark on their skin while shooting enthusiastically and asking questions.

It was a rainy forecast on the day, but fortunately it did not rain until the end and the weather was blessed. Thank you to Mr. Sugawara, the lecturer who explained eagerly, the members of the Shiga Prefectural Board of Education, Onjo-ji Temple, and everyone who participated. .
