Overview

Japanese aesthetics and skills that I want to convey and inherit

In recent years, the design of "Japanese Modern", which reconstructs the elements of Japanese in a modern style, has attracted attention. However, there are surprisingly few opportunities to learn the basic Japanese architectural design, and among them, Sukiya architecture, which is packed with many high-quality design elements, has a high threshold and has a strong image that it is difficult to take.
In this exhibition, we will dismantle the various elements that create Sukiya architecture, and explain where craftsmen are particular about and pursuing high quality through the perspective of Sukiya carpenter ridge master, a comprehensive designer.
A full-size tea room structure model will be installed at the venue, and a number of skills of Sukiya carpenters that can only be seen during construction will be explained. At the same time, we will introduce beautiful and delicate products produced by craftsmen involved in Sukiya, such as famous trees, bamboo, tatami mats, earth walls, fittings, metal fittings, etc., as well as exhibits tools and drawings used by the master of the master.
This is a great opportunity to understand the aesthetics and skills of sharpened craftsmen. Please don't miss it.

What is Sukiya Carpenter?
The design of a sukiya that Japan is proud of in the world. It was invented by the tea masters represented by Sen no Rikyu and Oribe Furuta, or the nobles who built the palace, and has been cultivated and refined for a long time. It was the craftsmen of Sukiya, including carpenters, who made the ideas of people with these delicate sensibilities with advanced technology. When the design of Sukiya was stylized and the consciousness of the tea masters began to focus on tea utensils and manners, Sukiya carpenters who were good at handling building materials began to play active roles in the late Edo period.
