The Colors and Metalwork of NikkoRevealing the mystery behind the architectural beauty of its shrines and temples
Overview of the Exhibition
"Shrines and Temples of Nikko" in World Heritage. Japan's world-class Cultural Heritage is home to nine national treasures and 94 important cultural properties. It is said to be a group of works of genius artists representing Japan in the 17th century, and was created using the highest level of architectural technology at the time.
Its charm is the overwhelmingly gorgeous and gorgeous architectural decorations such as Nikko Toshogu Shrine and Nikko Sanrinji Taiyuin. These structures have not lost their brilliance to this day. The power of the artisan who has steadily inherited the traditional techniques and techniques, and the knowledge that makes use of them, and has repeatedly preserved and repaired it, has accomplished it. These "Traditional Craftsmanships" were registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Property in December 2020.
In this exhibition, we will focus on the "coloring" and "golds" of decorative techniques that color the Shrines and Temples of Nikko and highlight the unparalleled luxury and glitter among the techniques of traditional architects, and explore the mystery of its beauty. Please enjoy the glittering world of architectural decoration and the best of traditional techniques that can only be seen in a distance.
