Date and time: Saturday, October 9, 2010 9:00-17:30
Location: Nara (Yakushi-ji Temple, Horyuji Temple, Horin-ji Temple)
Lecturer: Mitsuo Ogawa (in front of the building)
A tour of Nara's ancient temples (Yakushi-ji Temple, Horyuji Temple, Horin-ji Temple) was held with Mr. Mio Ogawa, the only inner apprentice of Tsunekazu Nishioka ridge, and a representative of modern times. Was.
Unfortunately, the weather was unfortunate on the day and it was raining, so I first visited Yakushi-ji Temple.
At Yakushi-ji Temple, they talked about the existing east pagoda 1300 years after its foundation, and the west pagoda rebuilt by Nishioka and Ogawa ridges at the time of its foundation.
All the participants were satisfied with the story unique to Domiya Carpenter, such as the structure of the tower centered on the core pillar and the shape of the roof.
I also visited the West Pagoda, which is usually hard to enter.
In the bus car after visiting Yakushi-ji Temple, they talked about episodes when he was apprenticed by Nishioka ridge and the era of training. Nishioka Ryoyo thought, "I used things I bought there, regardless of the tools I trained by master craftsmen," and "Domiya carpenters must have the gusty of building buildings without tools." Ogawa says. And the best teaching of Nishioka ridge was to "create cut blades."
Next, I headed to Horyuji Temple.
Horyu-ji Temple is a temple that Ogawa Munyo visited on a high school school excursion and was inspired to become a Domiya carpenter. Comparing Horyuji Temple, the oldest existing wooden building group in the world, with Ise-jingu Shrine, which has a stilt structure that assumes Shikinen Sengu will be held every 20 years, he discovered that the most impressive and courageous carpenter was the first person to put the pillars on the foundation stone," and foundation stone with wooden pillars to extend the life of the buildingAsuka period's wisdom.
After visiting the Saiin temple complex, he went to Toin temple complex, where the temple where Nishioka was first served.
At the end of the tour, I visited Horin-ji Temple.
The Ogawa ridge, who was allowed to be a disciple of Nishioka ridge, was assigned to the site for the first time during the reconstruction of the three-storied pagoda of Horin-ji Temple. This tower is a layer of "first, triple, and five-story" of five-storied pagoda at Horyuji Temple. However, it seems that the triple eye was crushed, so he tried to shrink the double eye by about 5 inches.
In addition to such an episode at the time of construction, he also talked about the teaching method of Nishioka ridge. "Nishioka ridges make some of them roll when they hold logs, then roll some of them, and finally make tiger-cut logs. This means that you should do it when you are off. Rather than teaching just because you can't do it, give an example and let your disciple do it, this is the way Nishioka ridge teaches. " By giving hints and giving opportunities, people grow greatly. And once you leave it to your disciples, trust them and don't say anything extra. And the disciples grow up by trying to respond to it. This is the teaching of Domiya carpenter, which is handed down from Nishioka ridge to Ogawa ridge, and from Ogawa ridge to the ridge ridges.
In the auditorium, we were able to hear from Vice-head priest about the story of the burning of three-storied pagoda and about the beautiful Buddha statues designated as important cultural properties, including the main deity Yakushi Nyorai seated statue.
Participants from all over the country, such as Chiba Prefecture in the north and Ehime Prefecture in the south, gathered for this tour. Unfortunately, it was raining, but he seemed to enjoy a rare opportunity to go around temples in Nara while listening to the commentary of Ogawa ridge. I'm sorry that we received an application far more than the number of applicants for this tour, and the majority of people have refused. We would like to hold such a tour from time to time in the future, and we hope you will participate in another opportunity.
The next talk event of Ogawa Munyo will be held at the Industrial Technology Memorial Hall on November 28 (Sun). In addition, a tour will be held on December 11 with Professor Foot of the Graduate School of Nagoya Institute of Technology, and "Owari Mikawa's carpenter ridges and their works" (advance application required).
