The mat is used to attach the top surface of the member. It is also used for rough work such as cutting lumber into square timber, sitting down hut beams, and cutting gables, and decoratively leaving hanging marks on floor pillars.

To use it, hold the handle butt with both hands and hit the blade toward you. It is said that it is better to use it so that it is split along the wood grain, and wear it thinly and long at the finishing stage. The blades of the mat are mainly double blades, with the sides of the blade almost symmetrical to the center line of the sheep, and the one side facing one side.

The blade width is generally about three to three inches and five inches. Like axes, the preferred shape varies slightly depending on the area used. The pattern is mainly made of Enge wood. It is tied with a wisteria in Tachiki to make it a bent, cut it long after the time, and dried it. The handle is designed so that the blade is slightly inside than the handle from the viewpoint of the structure. This is to ensure that the side of the hanging surface and the cutting edge are parallel when hit, and the way of scrubbing to the sheep is adjusted according to the height of the user and the height of the mountain with the handle.
