Traditional technology essential for preservation and repair of traditional Japanese architecture. This technology was registered with UNESCO Intangible Cultural Property in December 2020 as "Traditional Techniques of Traditional Craftsman: Traditional Techniques for Inheriting Wooden Buildings". In commemoration of the registration, a series of lectures will be held at the multipurpose hall on the 1st floor of the museum, focusing on technologies related to the the museum exhibition among the 17 selected preservation technologies selected by the government under the cultural property protection system.

What is UNESCO Intangible Cultural Property? A culture that has no shape, such as performing arts and traditional crafts techniques, and is closely related to the history of the land and lifestyle customs.

What is "Traditional Craftsmanship"? A traditional wooden construction technology that has been developed with a variety of ideas, including the wisdom of utilizing natural materials such as wood, grass, and soil in architectural spaces, collecting and reusing materials with a view to periodic preservation and repair, and harmonizing and integrating them with healthy original construction materials and unavoidably replaced materials, such as woodwork, roofing, Sakan plasterers, decorations and tatami mats.
