Overview of the Exhibition

In December 2020, "Traditional Techniques of Traditional Buildings and Crafts: Traditional Techniques for Inheriting Wooden Buildings" was registered with UNESCO Intangible Cultural Property. In this exhibition, to commemorate the registration of heritage, we will focus on the wisdom of engineers working to elucidate mysteries using the latest science and technology in preservation and repair work.
How ancient artisans built an architecture that has been built for more than a thousand years, and how modern technology was used to pass on architecture to the future? In this exhibition, we will focus on building technology, coloring restoration, wood, etc. through Heisei major repair of Toshodaiji Temple Kondo, a national treasure built in the Tenpyo era 1200 years ago, and introduce ancient and modern technologies in contrast.
