Contents of the exhibitionMiki (Hyogo Prefecture) is known as a famous gold production area in Japan. It is said that its origin was about 1500 years ago, when a technical group with wonderful skills settled in Miki and performed blacksmithing. Later, along with the development of blacksmithing technology, many carpenters have also been produced. During the Warring States period, sword making became popular, and it prospered greatly as a castle town along the Chugoku Highway. During the Edo period, the wonderfulness of Miki's carpentry tools owned by carpenters who went to Kyoto, Osaka, and Tajima was spread to other countries, making it a famous gold production area. In this exhibition, we will introduce the manufacturing process of five items designated as traditional craft product, namely saws, chisels, planes, mortars, and swords, focusing on the object "hardware eagle" made by stabbing about 3,300 Miki hardware such as saws and kitchen knives.
