Overview of the Exhibition

Chochikukyo-The Wooden Modernism of Koji Fujii, which was designated as an Important Cultural Property in 2017 as one of Japan's leading masterpieces of Modernism architecture. Koji Fujii, who designed the Chochikukyo-The Wooden Modernism of Koji Fujii as his own residence, was enrolled in the early days of the Design Department of Takenaka Corporation and laid the foundations. After that, while establishing architectural and environmental engineering as an academic discipline at Kyoto University, he was immersed in the design of "Housing" as a practice. Fujii's housing complex, which was truly in Japan's climate, has given us various suggestions in the 21st century. 2018 marks the 130th anniversary of Koji Fujii's birth, 80th anniversary of his death, and the 90th anniversary of the construction of Chochikukyo-The Wooden Modernism of Koji Fujii. In this milestone year, we will hold an exhibition to introduce Koji Fujii's thoughts on "Japanese Housing" that left the phrase "the architecture that represents the country is residential architecture" through several existing works centered on his own residence "Chochikukyo-The Wooden Modernism of Koji Fujii".
Based on "Chochikukyo-The Wooden Modernism of Koji Fujii" and Koji Fujii exhibition held at Gallery A4 in 2009, this exhibition is based on the addition of new materials discovered in recent years.
