Speaking of Western Europe, the image of stone architecture is strong, but excellent wooden architecture and its technology are also left in various places. In the northern part of West Europe, France and Germany are typical, and Belgium is the one where the characteristics of both coexist.
In this exhibition, we will introduce a wide range of European wooden architecture and technology through drawings, models, tools, videos, etc., focusing on architecture in the Wallonia region in southern Belgium, as well as commentary on neighboring areas.

Seminar

The Wallon district in southern Belgium is a rare area in West Europe where traditional wooden architecture remains. This region is mainly based on French carpentry technology, but on the other hand, there is also the influence of Germany. Here, I would like to introduce the wooden technology of Belgium, France and Germany, and compare them with wooden technology to explore the differences and commonality of ideas that make use of the nature of wood in Japan and Europe.
