Tokyo Station under construction (Obayashi Gumizo)

When it comes to modern architecture, we tend to be attracted by the activities of architects and the changes in various styles and expressions, but various technologies supported them. What kind of change did innovations in materials, structures, and construction methods bring to architecture? Architect Shoya Uchida and architectural historian Terunobu Fujimori will be invited to talk about modern architecture from the perspective of manufacturing.

Many modern buildings in the Tokyo office district (Marunouchi / Nihonbashi) have been rebuilt due to its good location. Among them, there are office buildings that are recognized for the splendor and historical value of the design, and have been cherished until today after preservation and restoration work. The two representative works will be explained by the construction staff of the construction company.

In building materials, construction videos can be said to be very important materials for conveying architectural culture. At the screening, you will be able to watch the valuable images of the construction of the Tokyo Cathedral Santa Maria Maggiore (completed in 1964), the Kasumigaseki Building (completed in 1968), and the Japan World Exposition Festival Plaza (completed in 1970), and invite guests to participate in the project to talk.
