On February 14, we held a workshop "Mosaic Art Made with Tiles". This is a manufacturing workshop that I wanted to hold because this exhibition is entitled "Challenge of Manufacturing".
Instructor is Kazuo Sumimiya, director of INAX Live Museum.
This time, it is a two-hour program to create a 10-cm square mosaic art by arranging 1cm square tiles. Here are the tiles and finished samples to be used this time.
First of all, take the necessary items from the colorful tiles into the tray.
Then think about the finished design and arrange the tiles. We will decide the layout of the tiles by thinking carefully, such as whether to make a concrete design or a geometric pattern, adjusting the colors or changing them. It seems that it takes more time for adults to work.
Once the position is determined, paste the tiles on the wooden frame with a bond, dry them with a dryer and fix them. The tiles will be carefully dried over time so that the tiles will not come off when filling the next eye.
Next, knead the joints with water and fill the joints of the tiles with your fingers. Mr. Sumimiya taught each person in this process because it was necessary to pay attention to watering.
Next, wipe it with a sponge to clean the surface and dry it with a dryer to complete it. A fun and unique work was created, each with a brilliant contrast between the shiny tiles and the matt fabric.
This mosaic art was 10cm square this time, but if you go to the INAX Live Museum in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, you can get up to 30cm square. If you are interested, please try it out.
