On February 14, a workshop "Mosaic art made with tiles" was held. Since this exhibition is entitled "Manufacturing Challenge", it is a manufacturing workshop that I wanted to hold.

The lecturer I will teach is Kazuo Sumimiya, director of Inax Live Museum.

This time, a two-hour program is to create a 10-cm-square mosaic art by arranging 1cm-square tiles. This is the tile used this time and the finished sample.

First of all, take the necessary trays from the colorful tiles.

Then think about the finished design and arrange the tiles. We will decide the layout of the tiles by considering whether to make concrete designs or geometric patterns, adjusting the colors or changing. It seems that adults will take longer to do this work.

Once you have decided the position, paste the tiles on the wooden frame with a bond and dry it with a dryer to fix it. The tiles will be carefully dried over time so that the tiles will not come off during the next work of filling the joint.

Then knead the joints with water and use your fingers to fill the tile's joints. Mr. Sumimiya taught each person in this process because it was necessary to pay attention to how much water was added.

Next, wipe it with a sponge to clean the surface and dry it with a dryer to complete. Each fun and unique work was created, with glossy tiles and matte joints playing a wonderful contrast.

This mosaic art was 10cm square this time, but if you go to the Inax Live Museum in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, you can do up to 30cm square. If you are interested, please try it out.
