At Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum, we support educational activities in schools and local communities so that students can learn more quality while utilizing a wealth of carpentry tools, related materials and videos to the extent possible. We will examine the needs of schools, such as arts and crafts, technical home economics, comprehensive learning, special activities, lectures, mobile museums, and teacher training, and discuss and implement learning contents with teachers.

  • This program is for school institutions (as stipulated in Article 1 of the School Education Law).
  • Admission is free for elementary and junior high school students, regardless of whether inside or outside Kobe city.
  • Admission fees are also exempt from special support schools (including high school students).
  • The admission fee is also exempt from the admission fee.

Program contents

  1. The program will be held in the museum as part of the extracurricular study.
  2. Available days are either "Wednesday / Thursday / Friday".
  3. Practical and craft experience will be accepted only on days when the schedule of Workshop Room and technicians is available, and permanent exhibition commentary will need to be adjusted by volunteer staff after applying.
  4. Workshop Room is charged 1,000 yen per application fee.
  5. Commentary support costs 1,000 yen per group as a commentary fee.
    *Explanation fees are exempted only for events that elementary and junior high schools carry out directly as part of school education. (Advance application required)

Lending materials for schools

1. Video "The carpenter is amazing!"

This is a video (DVD, 15 minutes, produced in 2011) that introduces carpenters' work and tools in a fun way, where elementary school children are interested in the building and meet carpenters and experience tools.

2. Video "Making a Nail"

Yukinori Shirataka, who was featured in the fifth grade elementary school Japanese language textbook (published by Mitsumura Tosho Shuppan Co., Ltd.) until last year (written by Seigo Naito) This is a video (DVD, 11 minutes, 202) that introduces the process of making Japanese nails by Mr. Komitsu, the third generation. The video introduces the characteristics and how to make Japanese nails, as well as the appearance of Shirataka parent and child who drives with enthusiasm and pride in his work.

3. Japanese nail

the museum holds a "millennium nail" made by Yukinori Shirataka. By having students actually pick up this Japanese nail and comparing it with the Western nails you usually see, you can borrow it for the purpose of deepening your understanding of Japanese nails and making them feel closer.
