This photo shows the Kobe venue in Current.
The onigawara Corner, which were not available at the Tokyo venue, has been added since October 14th.
When you enter the front entrance, you will be greeted by the tile Mandala. Please enjoy the modeling of various patterns on the tip of round tiles and flat tiles that decorate the eaves.
This is the corner of the millennium Iraki (history of tiles). On the central stage, there is a display of Shibi (1/2 of the actual size) of Kofuku-ji Temple in Naka Kondo, and on the left back, the oldest active tile on the roof is Genko-ji Temple in Asuka period, 1400 years ago. In addition, the panel explains the relationship between the transition of architecture and tiles.
Next is the "Make ancient tiles" corner. In addition to Tatara, which takes clay plates for making tiles, which are enhanced from the Tokyo venue, there are also work tables that make round tiles and flat tiles.
In the "Making Ancient Tile" corner, you can also see Toshodaiji Temple's Kondo Shibi (life-size) at eye level.
The deepest part of the exhibition hall is the powerful onigawara corner. onigawara is lined up by age, and in front of it, tools for making onigawara and plaster molds for ancient onigawara are displayed.
This is the corner of "roofing ancient tiles". A roof model (life-size) that was well received at the Tokyo venue is on display. The left is modern roofing, and the right is Nara period roofing.
On the opposite side of the roof model is a full-scale drawing drawn by a tile craftsman. It is intended to draw and check the drawings with the actual size of the tiles to consider how the tiles fit on the roof. There are also tools for measuring the mold plate for drawing full-scale drawings and excavated tiles.
In addition, tools and videos explain the selection and temporary arrangement of tiles (right photo), which is the work before roofing the tiles, and the process of roofing the tiles (left photo).
As a special exhibition on the terrace, you can see the shachi (life-size) of the Himeji Castle Main Tower. Please take a look at it.
The exhibition in Kobe will be held until December 3rd. It is a unique opportunity to enjoy tiles that are usually on the roof and are rarely seen up close. Don't miss it!
