Here are photos of the Kobe venue in Current.

"Thousand Years of Iraki (History of Tile)" and "onigawara Corner" which were not available at the Tokyo venue, have been held since October 14th.

When you enter the front entrance, you will be greeted by "Kawara Mandala". Please enjoy the various patterns applied to the tips of round tiles and flat tiles that decorate the eaves.

This is a millennium iraka (history of tiles) corner. On the central stage is the Shibi (1/2 of the actual size) of the central Kondo of Kofuku-ji Temple, and on the back left is the oldest tile on the roof of Gangoji Temple 1400 years ago (Asuka period). The panel also explains the relationship between the transition of architecture and tiles.

Next is the "Making Ancient Tile" corner. In addition to Tatara, which takes clay tablets for making tiles, which are enhanced from the Tokyo venue, work tables for making round tiles and flat tiles are also on display.

In the "Making Ancient Tile" section, you can see the Shibi (real-size) of the Kondo of Toshodaiji Temple at your eye level.

The back of the exhibition hall is the powerful onigawara corner. The onigawara is lined up by age, and before that, the tools that make onigawara and gypsum molds that make ancient onigawara are displayed.

This is a corner where you can use the old roof tiles. The roof model (life-size) that was popular at the Tokyo venue is on display. The left side is the modern roofing method, and the right side is the Nara period roofing method.

On the opposite side of the roof model is a full-scale picture drawn by a tile craftsman. In order to consider how the tiles will fit on the roof, it is intended to draw and check the drawings with the actual size of the tiles. On display are templates for drawing full-scale drawings and tools for measuring excavated tiles.

In addition, tools and videos explain the selection and temporary arrangement of tiles (right photo) and the process of roofing tiles (left photo), which are the work before roofing tiles, and the process of roofing tiles (left photo).

On the terrace, you can see the large castle tower of Himeji-jo Castle as a special exhibition. Please take a look at it as well.

The exhibition will be held in Kobe until December 3. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy tiles that are usually on the roof and that are rarely seen up close. Don't miss it!
